In it for a buck? Maybe not!
Track back to why YouTube was started. Not for copywrited material but for small budget movie productions by amateurs (wanting to break into the business) and it has given some amateurs the break they needed.

That said, someone's got to pay the bills so yes some money has been made. So a well intentioned beginning was too sucessful and because some contributors have not played by the rules some corporations think they can get a piece of the profit.

The response is proper - rather than pay for material they don't really want; they have agreed to take it off their site.
I think this proves they are not in it for the buck. Go YouTube!
