Let the market do it's thing
I live in a very rural area (65 miles to the nearest real city), and for a long time there was no broadband in my little town, but finally, after years of being jealous of people in the big cities and their broadband, I now have two choices of broadband service - Cable and DSL. This is due to fiber finally being run from one of the main pipes over to my little town. Soon we will probably have wireless option too.

If you let the market do its thing, eventually supply will meet the demand. It did in my little town. I view broadband as a luxury, not a necessity.

We already have pretty good broadband penetration in the U.S. anyway and it's not overly expensive. It's about the same price or cheaper than basic cable TV service in most places.

All this talk of subsidizing makes me shudder.
