Univeral "broadband" service does subsidies.
If only those who can afford to pay for them had roads to their homes and electricity service the vast majority of the US would be living in late 1900s and early 20th century conditions.

It was government spending during the depression that built the vast majority of rural highways and power lines.

If our president indeed wants the majority of the poor to have affordeable connectivity then those of us that can afford it now are going to have to subsidise it (like it or not) or it just ain't going to happen.

Some things like defense and basic services don't readiyl lend themselves to the current "competitive" market definitions (the drug smugglers can better afford to pay the DEA).

I do agree that OUR wallets WILL be picked, but the majority of the "pickings" will go to the middle men and not to the extra cost of providing the same affordeable univeral service to rural people.

I do apologize for missreading the word "many" as "the majority".
