Honda CoGen is effective
Honda has been working on this concept for several years. It is presented here as a more efficient heater. But, it is really outstanding when viewed as another component of a home that is a net contributor to the electrical grid. Power generated by these CoGen units along with solar photovoltaic power could make large inroads on the reduction of global warming caused by burning coal and other heavier fuels. These heavy fuels release more carbon dioxide than natural gas.

The two systems would work well together. The heater is needed more when the solar is not as effective. Even better use could be made whe domestic hot water is provided from both. The CoGen source, the solar system would share storage and control components.
