I agree. Very real-world
This article observes that certification is not necessarily the silver bullet a company or project needs to produce better software. I would contend that many companies have figured this out as well. I've been looking at programming/software engineer/developer job ads for the past couple years. I can count on one hand the number of times I've seen one that asks for certification. Even less say it's required.

In addition, I talked with a representative from a contractor-placement firm about the issue of certification last fall. I asked if I got certified in a particular software skillset, would this help an employer feel more comfortable in the idea that I could do the job. He responded, "Certification won't hurt, but it's no substitute for experience." In other words, it's a nice feather to have in your cap, but it won't get you an interview or a job in and of itself. It just doesn't impress people that much.
