Certifications are worthless
What does a certification do for you? If you are Administering Oracle and you are doing your job what does a certification do for you? NOTHING!

About the only thing a certification is good for is getting your resume past the HR people and into the hands of those that know. Once the resume is IT departments hands they don't even look for certifications they look for experience and the work you did. If you lack real work experience be sure to put the experience you got in school by listing projects and labs with what you did in them.

Certifications are big right now because they are money makers. From the vendor, to trainers, to test centers they all profit off people and corporations getting certifications. They have little to do with anything but getting you spend money on useless things.

Now I can make these comments because I have many Certifications such as A+, MCP, MCP+i, MCSE, and MCSA, MCSE 2000. As well I've worked in a testing center and taught certification courses. I know first hand how big a rip off they are from being on both end as an instructor and one who went through the cert trendmill.
