You don't live in California!
That's for sure. Many of the garbage collection agencies have their pick-up drivers check the trash... sure some small items may make it through, but if you try to toss recyclables into the trash and they catch it... it is left next to your empty trash can for you to PROPERLY dispose of. IF you are a repeat offender then you are reported and notified of your violation. Yes, it's getting to that point now.

More and more people are recycling every day. If you walk around California businesses you will also see bins for white paper, colored paper, batteries... then capitalize that with the fact that many workers are now actually becoming more pro-active in policing the trash and recycle bins.

If you have such an issue with how batteries and such are processed, maybe you should join the Luddites on an island somewhere. Everything you wear, eat, use in modern American society has a negative chemical and biological impact. Do I like it? No, but I am not going to give up all of my creature comforts but I will adjust my life to do what I can to minimize my negative impact on the environment.

It's you that needs to get your head out. The fact is we are slowly (and about damn time too!) moving to a greener society. Along the way mistakes will be made but once we get there, the bad crap we have been allowing since the beginning of the industrial revolution will start to be corrected, minimized and better regulated.

Sounds to me like you really don't know where you stand or just how much of your coveted lifestyle is actually harmful to the environment. You also must be new to the boards here, because all the regulars know that I am a hard core environmentalist. And I am pro-active by not only my lifestyle but the fact that I let the state and federal governments know my position on many of the issues at hand. devil
