IMO you are incorrect

Preventing anyone from making money legally, is a crime. Even if you don't agree with how they make it. Just because the "thing" you are stealing is digital, does not make it any less of a crime.

If someone stole your digital identity, and used it to get a job, collect your Social security, apply for a credit card, and ruined your credit... would you consider that a crime?

Even though they are only making a copy of your digital identity and using it?

The notion that, if you can't hold it in your hand it can't be stolen is naive.
