Another "silver bullet"
This reminds me *exactly* of the cover of the January '94, I think it was, cover of Computer, which was serving up OOP as the Silver Bullet to the software backlog.

Once again, it's nothing more than bs for management. The reason that this MDA or UML or whatever won't, and can't, end programming, is that the primary problems with software are:
1) management, in general, is utterly
untrained in logic, critical thinking,
and what they teach in technical writing
classes: scoping out a project, and
2) feature creep.

Beyond that, there's no difference between some of what MDA does, and standard libraries - it's just that many people who cut code haven't been trained in it, nor are they familiar with many standard library functions. Certainly I wasn't familiar with many functions.

That, of course, leads to the final reason it won't "solve" things: there have been two recent threads on slashdot about management literally *not* *knowing* why they should hire experience. One developer I worked with had started, a year before, right out of college. She told me that she would look at code she'd written at the beginning of her stint...and was appalled at how bad it was. She worked, btw, for Andersen, now Accenture.

You need to hire true entry level - right out of school, but the majority of what you need is experience...and especially these days, management doesn't want to pay.

You get what you pay for.
