Anonymizer

Yes, Anonymizer is great, I've had a subscription for years, but the question is, where is Anonymizer physically (and legally) located? Are they a U.S. company? Apparently so, because their Terms of Use state that legal disputes will be adjudicated under the laws of the State of California. Gonzales' intention is to create a law *requiring* ISP's to retain the data - not request, require. Would Anonymizer and similar companies even be allowed to operate as anonymous services under Gonzales' proposed law? It seems to me the law would require them to start logging everything and retain it for possible use by the Feds. Would they have to move offshore to avoid the law?

If the latter, again, the question is where? The EU already has data retention requirements similar to what Gonzales wants in the U.S., so Europe is no good. The U.S. may not have jurisdiction for any particular offshore location, but they can bring a lot of pressure to bear on foreign sovereign entities if they want to - particularly in the name of the "war on terrorism". What place is immune to this, or not already worse?

This proposed law is a serious threat to the few remaining shreds of privacy we have in the U.S., and it must be stopped. The tired old saw of the appeasers, "if you have nothing to hide, what are you worried about", is foolish nonsense, unworthy of any American. Unworthy of the risks the Founders took to establish a Republic dedicated to personal liberty, and unworthy of the blood of those who fought to defend and preserve it. Bush is un-American in his fascist tendencies. To cite a well worn phrase, usually (and perhaps incorrectly) attributed to Ben Franklin: "Those who would give up Essential Liberty to purchase a little Temporary Safety, deserve neither Liberty nor Safety." Liberty is the birthright of all Americans, and not to be given up.

Contact your Representatives and Senators - tell them to block Gonzales' latest attack on our Constitutional rights. If you give up your freedom, you'll never get it back.
