multi processor multicore
Fortran is still prevalent in the scientific community and it is not all that different from Basic. I have to think that a Basic programmer who just can't get his or her head into objects and will always prefer procedural coding would benefit from Fortress. Its a multi processor multicore world now and this article is great at explaining how Fortran/Fortress as well as Java make easy work in that world.
