Hmmm, suprising I guess....
In my opinion, one has to wonder about this. You see, when a company buys a site license, they purchase an upgrade to the current version of Windows even if they want the old versions. For example, if we want to run XP, we will purcahse an upgrade license to Vista, then purchase any Windows media we want (i.e. a 2000 install CD and a XP Pro install CD), which we can then mix and match: some 2000, some XP, and some Vista etc. MS will still record them as sales of Vista because theoretically, they are sales of Vista; every computer covered under the site license has the right to use any version of Windows from NT to Vista.

So, does this actually mean that these companies are rolling out Vista or does it mean that they have renewed/purchased site licenses? Or is it both?

Furthermore, with MS virtually requiring that new computer sales include Vista by default (as I understand it, you will have to select XP if you want the system "downgraded"), then all of the Windows PCs will be "Vista Sales" demonstrating the success of Vista.

I have poked around at Vista, but I find the implementation of the security features to be annoying. I am not saying that I think that Vista is insecure, but that the implementation of the security will aggravate people. (That being a world of difference.)

If I were to make a prediction, Microsoft's first SP will make the security features less intrusive. Unless they do that, I suspect that Microsoft will start to lose customers at an increasing rate (to Apple). People aren't going to put up with the intrusions of Microsoft's security implementation.

For the record, I like XP Pro (prior to WGA that is) and I like OS X (though I don't have a Mac) and I enjoy SLED 10 and Ubuntu. I try to use all of them for their strengths and I try to avoid fanboyism. Whether or not I am successful is up to you to judge.
