Sounds like they are scared of *something*, eh?
Like maybe - Apple entering the market with a customer friendly, easy to use, effective, and reliable phone based on an already popular audio product?

I'm no Mac fanboy, I mostly run Linux & BSD, but seems to me that Apple always does it's homework and when products are released they tend to have the best design and a thoughtful mix of useful features. These are the very things at which MS is weakest. They are also the very things which make consumer appliances successful.

Personally, I've got a SanDisk MP3 player and I'm very happy with it. That said, I would still love to see Apple do a iPod phone just to see what they would produce. You know it would be beautiful, and it's existence would drive the market forward -- even if I didn't buy one for myself.
