"Court records often contain Social Security numbers (SSNs) and financial account numbers. These are commonly available in divorce decrees, child custody cases, and bankruptcy filings. But when account numbers, personal identifiers, and dates of birth are accessible on the Internet, they could be used to commit financial fraud. The crime of identity theft is at epidemic proportions today, fueled in part by easy access to SSNs."

From the Houston, TX taxing authorities web site I pulled this little web page.

On it if you lived in Houston I could find out where you live the value of your home the approximate amount you pay in taxes. This is just one example how readily available your personal info really is. There are many more databases that are readily accessible to anyone to give away your info. A trip to the county court house with this info and I find out what car you drive the lic plate, your SSN, drivers license and everything else listed in the report above.

From that point on, your world can be shaken worse than any fear you may have of the feds. As I said the story is so much FUD.
