Define "Broad"
I have 384/128 cable, pay 40 bucks a month for it, and I'm seriously thinking about switching back to dialup, or just using the 33.6k Shiva connection at work. A 384/128 connection just isn't what it used to be.

I have a DS3 at my workplace, so yeah perhaps I'm a bit spoiled, but at home I actually do things with my connection, like website development (the "128k" part of my connection drives me mad), and I like to download big things from time to time, like the Latest FreeBSD ISO, or the occasional 500MB game demo.

When I finally got my cable activated a few months ago, it was great for about a day, but soon the reality of how non-fast a 384k connection is set in very quickly.

With a 384k connection, I still have to wait hours to download big files, and broadband or no broadband, I can allways get humongous files off the net when I'm at work.

It seems to me, the speed/price ratios avaialable to broadband customers have stayed the same over the past few years, depsite the fact that the wholesale price of bandwidth has gone down. Four or five years ago, a 384k coonection for $40 would be great for me, but now, paying $40 per month is just too much for what I get.

I know some people in other parts of the U.S. have better broadband speed/price ratios, but in my area broadband providers have a real nice racket going.

Perhaps I can set up a mini wireless tower at work. wink
