Linux is getting better all the time.
I am extremely pleased with the latest Linux distributions. They have come to the point where I can replace a broken, virus infected, Windows computer with a new install in less than half an hour. That includes creating a password protected root account, configuring the printer with the built in driver package, setting up Firefox and installing Adobe Acrobat and Flash Player. OpenOffice.org is already bundled and waiting to be run. Once this is done, I spend a few minutes to explain the operation and I don't even think about firewalls, viruses, spyware, trojans, or other malware. I check back in 2 months and nothing has changed... just satisfied users. I was extremely impressed when I installed a Windows application and it opened in "Wine". For a minute, I thought I was in still in Windows. I have the beta 2 and RC disks for Vista, but for now, a dual but setup seems necessary for the reasons cited by a previous poster. The Knoppix, Ubuntu and Freespire distributions are really hot and it may be worth it to give them a try alongside Vista.
