True, but ...
A lot of what you say is true, but there is a problem. With a carbon tax, that cost is passd on to the consumer and you and I wind up paying for the cleanup. Is that fair to the poor, people who can't work or are on fixed incomes? The cap and trade system would seem the way to go but isn't it just shuffling around allocations of carbon productions? Does anything get reduced?
We need to reduce our dependence on oil and coal. But no one wants a nuclear power station in their backyard. I don't know the answer but it won't be as easy as fining the companies that produce carbon. I do know that there is a lot of research going into the problem: Hydrogen fueled vehicles, wind mills, etc. Whatever happened to solar power? Let's hope the answer doesn't come to late.
