500 people... Oh, only corporations or big businesses are allowed patents! I agree that there are a lot of ludicrous patents out there and yes most of them are obvious. The current system is broken and needs to be fixed, but how do you protect the individual (read person or small business) from a corporation with tremendous financial and legal resources?

Let's take a software example... The spreadsheet, to me it looks like a ledger (rows and columns) with some automation from the capability of formulas. There have been patent issues on this before, and I believed then and still believe that they were "obvious" and should have been thrown out. You can extend this to current software patent issues and amuse yourselves to no end.
