In any field...
... there are flashes of inspiration so significant that hundreds of years later people still admire them. The person who had that inspiration is remembered by name and praised for intelligence and intellectual daring.

Some of those ideas can be expressed in a sentence or two.

If we looked at a series of ideas, we might be able to determine a rough set of guidelines about what's obvious and what isn't.

But a rough set of guidelines is insufficient when the difference between a valid and an invalid patent is $ billions.

So you're right that there's a set of ideas which might be designated Anybody can see that. But what about the set How could nobody have seen that for all these hundreds of years?

Worth thinking about.
