A story only a Microsoft Legal would propose
The folks in the US that view Microsoft as a criminal organization are back in power. Hence, from a business man's perspective, the prospect of a drawn-out legal battle with Microsoft over anything is greatly diminished.

The folks like Slade Gorton's campaign manager and the executive involved in Microsoft's .Net product have failed to gain election. In the mean time known Microsoft adversaries (Hatch and Cantwell to name two) continue to work on Microsoft's reform, Cantwell now very much in power.

From the above we should conclude that Microsoft is expected to give up enforcement of its patents and copy rights just like IBM did in the 1970s in settlement of the antitrust violations. We IT workers and US citizens are being played by this article in an attempt to make us accept this as fair. I expect much more.

Microsoft, unlike IBM, has the poor managment that actually challenges and purchases government. Its top managers view laws like criminals do for they are criminals. If the penulty does not exceed the reward, it is taken.

These poor managers -- Ballmer, Smith, Allchin, Gates and those "good fellows" connected to them -Neukom in particular - have to be removed from Microsoft and polite society so that they can not be viewed as successful by our young potentials and potentials in China and other nations who may want to copy their "success".

Lets not forget that in China these scallywags would be executed for antitrust violations. They are pirates, tolerated for a time in the US because we are a tolerant nation, but now expected to reform and shut up, or be hanged as all pirates were when what is now the EU decided it would be so. Happy Thanksgiving.
