I guess I wasn't very clear. The problem or at least a portion of the problem is rooted at home with the "stand on your own" mentality. Combine this with a reduction of love and affection from both parents and a poor diet (come on, how many of you really cook your meals from scratch anymore? All those ready made meals are chock full of chemicals, of which several have been proven to alter brain chemistry.)
There is no single "ah ha!" element, it is a combination of things that will lead to criminal behaviour. As much as I would love to continue this debate, I am getting the feeling this is neither the time nor the place for a more in depth exchange of ideas.
And yes, personal accountability is paramount. The problem is that the "experts" and law makers have made it easy for Americans to shift the blame to someone else. Also the advertisers on TV and even the radio are guilty of programming the American public into thinking they are the ONLY person that matters and that if something goes wrong, it's not your fault.
The problem starts at home with a lack of nurturing, poor diet and even carried beliefs and prejudice from elders adds to the collective destruction of a good, loving, caring individual. One other thing before I end my part of this discussion, violent behaviour isn't always displayed by violent action, it can take the form of subversion and back stabbing (not very eloquent but they get the point across...
