Ever talk to a vetran of a war
They can explain what desenstizing is. One told me that you get desensitized by killing your first few enemies. No amount of pretend killing prepares you for it. You may be able to do it easier but you are but you deal with it after the fact. So you may pull the trigger on reflex but you still feel impact of your actions. This makes sense to me.

I don't think games make you violent, anti-social maybe but not violent. It could be that anti-social behavior that allows people to miss the signs of metal illness that leads to violence though. Games could take a person susceptable to extreme depression and remove any safety net of friends and family. Just a thought there.
