I have one daughter...

this is a really esoteric topic... but I see your points, although I do not agree with them I accept them.

An infant has no other way to convey emotion other than crying, and hitting and of course fawning. Goes back to the advent of language that allowed us to convey our thoughts and emotions. Inherently we are good and gentle in our nature. But like with any animal there are triggers that will set us off. Contrary to what some of my catholic aquaintences would have us believe we are still animals.

And not all animals have the inherent nature to do harm. There are some exceptions, but even then they are very rare and can be attributed to the current state of the animals surroundings and phyiscal conditioning. Violence is learn as well. You are correct in that we assign a consequence for violent behavior, but how that consequence is applied and what the consequence is, will either reinforce that violence is acceptable or it isn't.

I will be the first to admit that I am using a lot of generalizations but limited space is one reason. But the majority of people by nature are not violent nor do they seek to do violence. In many cases it's an external trigger that will initiate an episode.
