Lead by example [someday]
How can he get over it if no one shows him a meaningful counter-point?

"an operating system includes a browser and a media player and will include search capabilities."

No. An operating system includes an environment where programs that browse and play media (and store, manipulate, retrieve and re-order data and all the other functions that programming languages, databases, graphics editing and creation, engineering design and testing applications, etc. can do) can be deployed to the satisfaction of the users. There is no definition of an operating system that includes specialized end user applications such as you describe as necessary integrated features.

Most operating systems do include local hardware and sometimes local network search capabilities ; good point. Other than that you need to get over yourself and realize that you are clueless about the fundamentals of operating design and function and that attempting to justify someone else's marketing strategy as necessary functionality will never earn you any respect points, nor convince those that know that they don't know.
