Well, DUH!
That is exactly the problem.

I currently give somewhere around 10-20% of my income to charities anyway. I have the ones that I have researched and chosen and I like either their mission or politics etc. I give to them and no others unless I find another cause and then research it and find it acceptable.

Used to, if a charity or politico called and you asked them to not call you back they would take you off their list and not call. Now, because everyone is on the "if it ain't explicitly forbidden it must be legal/right" kick, when you ask them not to call you are likely to get cussed out and told that they can call you anytime they want and that you are a horrible terrible person for not giving millions to the "Free Richard Gere's Gerbils Foundation."

So, now they just harrass you until you cave, and they're legally protected now. At least before you could threaten to sue for harrassment but now they have the legal "right" to call at all hours of the day, night and weekend and say all kinds of scandalous and libelous things to and about you if you don't pony up.
