Trying to get their technology into Linux
Instead of being closed out of Linux markets this is MSFT trying to contaminate the operating environment with elements of their technology.

The more they can do that the more cost it adds to Linux in the enterprise. Sounds more like MSFT threatened Novell with patent litigation than any real desire to work with Linux. Or maybe they're both afraid of something like Ubuntu.

Either way you Windows fan boys have to see this as MSFT trying to cut a deal with Linux...albeit on their terms. Redmond knows something we don't. Be interesting to know what that is.

Doesn't matter. They're not going to execute any better with this effort than they have anything else in the last ten years. As long as Ballmer is in charge MSFT is no threat to Linux.
