Make an image...
... of your newly installed OS with just the basic programs (Drivers, AV, etc.) Then, when you are socially engineered into blowing up your OS, simply lay the stored image over your hosed drive and you are back up and running.

I do this all the time with machines I use for beta testing and it only takes a few minutes to be back in business. Really a necessity if you find yourself reinstalling your OS more than once every couple of years or so.

Drive Image or Ghost are good for Windows, but you can find many other programs for free or low cost to do the same job. Google it and save the precious hairs on your head the wear and tear.
