... because that's not a Windows or IE issue, it is a social engineering issue.

If you install a program that hiddenly install some adware in the background without telling you, Linux will not protect you at all.

As you say, you administer the system for your family the same way I do administer the system for my family too, and we're both professionals.

That's why neither my family nor yours have never experienced any spywares, pop-ups or viruses for years, even though I use Windows (from DOS 5.0 to Windows XP) and you use Linux.
