Sorry, you're wrong -- what you produce IS copyrighted, and protected by that copyright as soon as you produce it. You may not have REGISTERED the copyright, but it still exists and can be enforced.

Now if you decide to put your production in the public domain, that protection is gone, but that requires a specific act on your part. Placing a clip on YouTube or some other place on the web does not automatically place it in the public domain, but you'd better be prepared to fight people for your copyright in those circumstances.
