Still wouldn't stop
Take drugs for example and the penalties there for drug dealing and use. Has that decreased the problem? Nope, not a bit and in fact drug use and dealing has increased. There are more drugs out there today than when I was kid and back then you got a slap on the wrist for smoking a joint. Now you get a criminal record and can spend time in jail. Get caught a few times and you will be in jail for quite a time.

Piracy is an even bigger problem. First it's easier to do with out getting caught. There is big money in pirating. I don't consider the average joe file swapper to even be an issue. It's those in china producing hundreds of thousands of DVDs and CDs and selling them here with everything from software to movie to music on them where we unknowingly pay full prices for the crap.

There's a reason they pirate. First it's easy money, it's hard to actually get caught, and the market has already been built for them by corporations producing the content that they rip off in the first place. The sentence for commiting copyright infringement is like half a million dollars in fines and a significant jail time. That's not detering these criminals so I doubt making 10 year sentence into 15 years would make differnce. I doubt making the crime punishable by death would make a difference.

The only way you can make this problem go away is to make the product not worth pirating.

So take music for example. Remove copyrights entirely and make it free to copy recordings for everyone and have musicians make thier money in concerts. Not like it would happen but no one would pirate music anymore now would they? Or make the DVD files free but offer a product that isn't so easily copied. but if you buy a DVD you get something extra that can't be copied. Maybe movie ticket discounts to a theatre show to encourage theatre viewing and buying of the DVD.

I think if copyrights are to survive content creators must start getting creative about making thier product better than what the pirates in china are offering.

Of course you will blow this off with a trollish comment like you usually and insult me but if you're not part of the solution then you're part of the problem.
