or just maybe...
maybe it's the fact that you were probably calling someone that was totally clueless, and your computer may have been more tuned for dsl than cable.

i have a moto sb5120, a linksys wrt54g v5 with v 1.00.9 firmware, a linksys wrt54g v2 with the hyperwrt+TOFU version 4.30.something installed acting as a range expander, and neither one of my macs or my fiancee's xp mce laptop have issues with uploading, downloading, gaming, file sharing, print sharing, printing over the internet, streaming music/video...i can go on, but you get the idea.

i'm on a comcast connection at home, but there should be no difference between mine and cox, except maybe the servers and routers you're going through to get to the backbone. i also worked for time warner doing tech support on roadrunner and digital phone (when they changed the department to everything, and the tv people didn't get changed over, i switched to the is department where i fix software and hardware all day long). the only difference between the rr and comcast connections - the routers getting to the backbone. so really, i bet there's something going on with your router or computer's config.

or just read the short answer - quit griping and just drop cox.
