Where's the $?
I'd readily admit that I am not as smart as the guys who run Google, but I just don't see how you make any money with online video. I have watched a number of homemade videos on Youtube. It's often good for a chuckle. Sure, they have a few ads, but I don't recall ever clicking on one.

Of course, I never touched EBAY stock either, thinking it was little more than an internet garage sale.

The difference is that EBAY now makes most their money from companies and people who sell stuff on EBAY for a living. People go to EBAY when they want to buy things.

For video, the logical evolution is for commmercial content to move online. But I doubt people are going to head over to Youtube and browse for something to watch, like they head to EBAY to browse for something to buy. Instead the providers of content, TV networks, movie studios, etc are going to host their own videos. Those same providers will aggressively protect their rights if bootlegs versions of their content show up on Youtube or other competitors sites.

Perhaps someone brighter than I can find the piggybank here, and certainly if the content is free, you can make some money from ads as people drop by to watch homemade jackass videos. But $1.65B??? I don't get it.
