I dealt almost exclusively with their business, engineering and data center products -- workstations, servers, blade servers, software, security products, IP and user admin, open view plug-ins and APIs. The problem was -- HP wasn't engaged. You got the feeling that product managers were working to build little kingdoms with no central leader or objective guiding the company as a whole.
As stated before, I spent Christmas to New Year 2000 in an HP customer data center. The company did not seem to care that this customer could not get ahold of the upgrade licenses that they paid for to get their firewall Y2K compliant. I was an account exec, forced to install firewalls (something I was trained in before) to keep the customer happy.
While selling HP gear to the largest accounts in my region, my team (one of the top sellers in the US) was constantly amazed at the lame-brain HP marketing execs and VPs who ignored virtually every SOS we sent out. Both fires and heads-ups were IGNORED and I can tell you that it seemed as if they were all on sleeping pills. You would walk up at a trade show to follow-up on a panic email, shake hands with them and be greeted with their glazed-over eyes. You would then get the brush-off, or a denial ("I can't remember your email") similar to how the Speaker is claming to not remember warnings about the Republiphile who is now causing them so much pain. I think Carly Fiorina killed moral so badly, and the merger was consuming everybody's attention, nobody dared do their job. Nobody could escallate problems or questions -- no matter how big the prospect.
I am sure this post will be deleted, as were all my other specific posts. And I am sure it will be brushed aside by the fan boys as "bitterness from a disgruntaled employee..." But I am not bitter, I just care. I care deeply about an industry that can help America and the world do everthing better, from automation to education.
Before it is censored, I am hoping that Jack will take a day before attacking it, and talk with other former HP resellers and employees. Not compaq, HP. I hope that Jack and the losers on HP's board will examine their loyalties, priorities and their own biased leanings before takings shots at messengers who are more passionate (than they might think) about resurrecting HP from mediocrity. - Posted by: author20@...
