Why not call it "Spiced Ham"
If it was called Spiced Ham then the Monty Python "Spam" sketch and song would have made less sense and been less funny.

Let's not forget that the Python sketch was conceived and aired 8 years before the first recorded instance of the first email "Spam".

Hormel however, have been making "Spam" since 1937 and apparently it achieved an 18% market share in it's first year of production and has gone on to sell over 6 billion cans.

If you had a product as successful as that would you change it's name? I'm fairly sure you would fight to own the name coined by your company seven decades ago.

I think they have a right to fight for their brand name and they should win.
