Don't overlook that it was the CFO
Let's not overlook the fact that this was the CFO - head of the finance and accounting organization - pursuing these questionable practices. This is the guy who signed the financial statements saying everything was accurate and well controlled. This isn't your average exec, who can claim he didn't know better.
