Whistleblowing
Just because you work at HP doesn't mean you give up your rights as a US Citizen. Recent Supreme court rulings have made it clear that employees are protected as citizens when they talk as citizens to the press. You can not be fired from your job for talking as a citizen.

Think it through. You think your company is selling technology to Alcida and you go through the channels established at HP for reporting that. You can be fired - even if correct. The procedures established by mananagment are there to help fire you. The US courts can not help you. But if you talk to Mary Jo at Cnet as a citizen an do not let her claim you are an employee or officer the US Courts are obliged to protect you.

There is another interesting development involving Email/Blogs. Email and Blogs now look to be the best form of communication for Whistleblower protection. The Bush Adminisration has established that the laws involving phone communications apply, and the Microsoft antitrust case established that the laws involving regular mail apply. This must just drive lawyers nuts. In spite of "Prepared on Advice of Legal Councel" electronic froms of communitation go right into the evidence file. And companies can not legally destroy the email.

We in the IT industry did this. Take a bow American Programmers. There has never been a tool as capable of dealing with wrong doers in the history of man kind. First we clean up our own industry and next well Talaban, Alcida and their precursors (Microsoft) of course.
