Recent trend...? NOT

Umm..."it does seem to be part of the overall trend we have been seeing for the past few years of corporate executives who simply no longer acknowledge, or even think about, the morality of what they do"?

Not sure what world you live in, but this is far from a recent trend. With money comes power, and upper-level managers for large corporations have consistently held morals and the rule of law in contempt. The problem is not international exposure; the problem is individual integrity and morality and has been since the dawn of time. And before you start blaming it on the breakdown of family values in the 80's and beyond, most of these people grew up in an era when people WERE actually taught right from wrong. The problem is that as they amassed more power, they learned the message that 'might makes right' and 'it's only illegal if you get caught'.
