Sun brings alot of credibility to MS's story
... from some inside knowledge I have, the Sun is failing on its projects to build some new and advanced application server Software for managing applications running on a distibuted network.

Sun's management story is incomplete unless it can provide app management across all OS's not just Solaris/Linux. It would seem that MS could gain abit of credibility in the Enterprise if it shows it is willing to 1) support Java (companys already have decised that one) and 2) will allow others to provide key functionality like systems management infrastructure.

Now if they can work together instead of just release statements to the press they will both benefit greatly. Sun brings tremendous technology (high performance servers) which could improve Windows ability to add value on mainframe level machines and MS gets Sun a channel and API info it needs to move forward on its vision.

Just imagine how successful MS could be if the advanced features of Solaris were included into Windows-64 for distribution on mainframe level computers. MS has a long way to go there and if they drag their feet too long Linux will blow em both away.

The reason being, mostly IBM but BEA too are being faster than Sun in this field and they have real offering ready before Sun makes it to the internal testing phase.

Don't worry about who's first in the market. Its all about you the customer believes will deliver the real, working version of the product first.

BEA has no reason to take on systems management, they will focus on app server management which is only one part of the customers problem.

The morale at Sun is low and they need a real boost to make it to the 'black' side.

Want to talk about low morale, look at the folks at Microsoft trying to explain their vision of systems management. If I was at MS I would be more than happy to through that nighmare over the fence to someone like Sun who actuially has credibility in the field.
