Obvious reasons
---What, specifically (and give me details) is it about Zune that will be a step down from the iPod?---

It's a step down for obvious reasons. The first being it's only a 30 GB hard drive. I use a 60 GB iPod now and am considering upgrading to an 80 GB model. Second, no scroll wheel. That's still the most efficient user interface available. Pushing buttons is just not as good. So less storage and harder to use. I'd call that a step down.

Because they're "out there" doesn't mean they're being used for media center purposes. I'd think the vast majority are used the same as non-media PC's, would you agree? Most people who own one got it because it came with their PC, and they don't use it in the living room.

Honestly, I don't watch all that much tv, so I'm probably not the one to ask here. I've avoided Tivo because of the built-in DRM. What's the DRM situation with the media PC these days?

No, I'd just say you're ahead of the curve. You're willing to jump through more hoops than most people. When it gets as easy as an iPod, then the masses will catch up.
