Going from the info we are given by MS and this article, how about lack of video support on the first device as the article claims. That alone is a huge step down in the way many people use their players (or iPods).

I guess you could take the word of some analyst from IDC or you could believe your eyes.

On Zune file formats: Zune will support your existing, unprotected, music library (MP3, AAC and WMA files), as well as video formats (WMV, H.264, MPEG4, 320x240), and JPG photo files.
The video also clearly shows that Zune supports video right now.

The main feature it is promoting as being the huge step up from iPods is limiting. "The shared songs can be heard up to three times over three days".

It is only limiting depending on how you view it. If the purpose is to say I love this song, you should check it out then I would say it serves its purpose quite well. Besides, as the iPod fans so quickly point out, DRM isn't of any concern because it gets broken so easily (or does that rule only apply when FairPlay is broken?). How long before hacked versions of Zune come out that get around this?

That's if you know someone else with a Zune player and is always in very close range (same room they say).

HA!! Love the logic!! You are upset because the Zune can't connect wirelessly with the iPod? Tell you what, convince Apple to make a wireless iPod and then you can chastise MS for making a player that won't connect with it. Hilarious!!!! As far as the range goes, within the same room is still infinitely further than what the iPod can manage. happy

Maybe because it is bundled with many PCs, a tried and true move by Microsoft in getting people to use their stuff. Yet what tic said stands, most hardly ever use it except the techno advance.

Uh huh, and Apple doesn't bundle OSX with all of their Macs?

Oh, this is yet another opportunity to use Cult of Mac logic!! Macs are better than PCs because they can run OSX, Linux, and Windows, something no PC can do, even (and this is the important part) if you have no intention of using Windows on it. So, Media Center PCs are better because you can use it as a media PC, even if you don't!! Ahh, brilliant logic!! happy
