Don't mistake laughter for fear
---I don't think I've ever seen anyone so scared about Microsoft's recent offerings.---

Hey, if MS could come up with a compelling product in this market, I'd be the first to buy it. My 4th gen iPod is getting a little long in the tooth, and I'm starting to think about a replacement. So I'd love to see MS come up with something more useful.

Sadly, despite all their money, their product is just another wannabe. You're not going to knock the king off the hill by putting out a product that's not all that different. As many here have pointed out, Linux will never replace Windows by trying to copy Windows. No one will bother to switch just to get the same thing. And in this case, switching would be a step down.

I still prefer the one button mouse (albeit with a scroll wheel). It allows all programs to work the same, and is more about forcing programmers to follow a philosophy than it is the gains made from having more buttons. But to each his own on that issue.

As far as the living room goes, there's not much to catch up with there. You have a product from MS that doesn't do much, that isn't used much. Apple seems to be offering a product that doesn't do much either. Neither company is on the right track yet.
