Wilson, Sonsini, Goodritch & Rosati
There were two contractors involved. HP hired one and whoever was hired got a subcontractor. This sounds a lot like HP used outside counsel.

The firm HP hired likely is prestigous meaning connected. Since Hewlett-Packard has refused to publicly disclose the names of the "consulting firms", I am assuming that such a disclosure will greatly harm the wrong doers by alerting board members at other companies that use them to the fact that thier own phone records are likely monitored.

Wilson, Sonsini, Goodritch & Rosati appear to be the wrong doers but the following URL comes just short of fingering them.

Wrong doing by legal firms is dificult to report on in both courts of law and courts of public opinion owing to ethical guidelines establised by bar associations.

For example if a whistleblower at Preston Gates and Ellis were to come forth and that whistleblower were a member of the bar, he/she would be disbarred, at least in Washington State.

More than one law student has dropped out after finding this out. If you assume 50 percent of the US population is honest and the rest prefer lying then you can see that among bar association members perhaps only 20 percent are honest and the rest subscripe to the ethics of lying - even when that isn't necessary.

In addition if documents were filed in the public record Preston Gates and Ellis would use its influence to have judges seal the files. The Seattle Times is doing a great job of exposing this particular law firm. HP should expose Wilson Sonsin, Goodritch & Rosati now or name another because the Bravo Sierra has hit the fan. There is no way that that company should get another client otherwise.

If we want good corporate citizenship we need to go after those that help corporations do wrong. BTW, the second firm appears based in Georga, home of failed politition and Microsoft Consultant via Abramoff recommendation Reed.
