Striving to Monopoly is the NORM....
and I don't care if it's in evolution or business or sports - it's part and parcial of the dynamics of competition.

And so what - if a company has a monopoly that does not imply that it will always continue - it does NOT stop innovation.

Okay - MS has been called a monopoly - oh gee! The universe has ceased to exist, lets all go home and pull the covers over our heads. Oh it's the end of all we know.

Garbage. Linux is still gaining share, Apple is still out there, Unix is still selling - where is the harm? Last I read, Novell is out to push Linux to the desktop. Innovation has ended? Horse muck.

And stop being so condesending to users - just as in every other market - folks LIKE NEW AND DIFFERENT. By your argument, there would not be a market for car radios - yet Sony/Panasonic/Fisher etc. do very well as after market suppliers. It's not because they have ties to GM/FORD/NISSAN/TOYOTA et. al - it's becasue they SELL A BETTER PRODUCT!!!

Now that is Adam Smith's invisible hand in motion - not this nonsense about whether or not MS has included a product in their OS.

Come up with a better and people will beat a path to your door is still in play.
