- Apple went with BSD.
- Apple uses the FreeBSD systems with a CMU Mach kernel and their own GUI. SGI had MIPS and IRIX but they also have Windows and Linux (I met with some SGI reps at a LinuxWorld conference some years back). Investor confidence has fallen with the company, though (it has been delisted) and it may be too late.
