The Board is not the same as the CEO
A board, in general, is a bunch of over-paid executives with minimal knowledge of the industry issues surrounding the companies on whose boards they sit.

They collect huge stipends, and eat very well. Many of these folks could make a fine living just attending quarterly meetings (See what Carly is doing these days.) Most could live for months off the calories consumed at their breakfasts.

To blame choirboy Mark Hurd or HP as a company for the actions of board members (who, in fact, DESPITE their accomplishments can very WELL be IDIOTS.)

Hurd and his underlings are too busy with their noses in spreadsheets figuring out how to screw the sales force out of their commission checks to be involved in any kind of intrigue.
