More lows in journalism
Okay, hacking is despicable. And I don't excuse HP's hiring an unscrupulous consultant, failing to put him on notice about ethics, then further failing to police his work products and methods.

So HP is "dismayed"? Now, *that's* "pretexting"!

BUT reporters like Dawn Kawamoto who -- with no slight pretense of "the public good" -- publish a company's strat plans only do so irresponsibly make a name for themselves at someone else's expense, caring not a whit about ethics nor whom they hurt.

Is Kawamoto to be deified because she was exposing a child pornographer or trying to bust a phishing ring? Did she also publish the strat plans of HP competitors? Not hardly.

She was callously and differentially harming HP, aiding its competitors, and cheating its stockholders -- all so she could brag about her "scoop" in her next resume and cocktail party.

And where were her editors, that breed charged with reining in the exuberant excesses of ambitious reporters? They were also asleep at the ethical switch.

This is a case of the vandal getting her backside chewed up by the ill-trained pit bull. No one is guiltless.
