More information coming out.
This appears to be getting worse. A quick google of news stories on HP shows some pretty ugly details on this. Three things stand out:

1) The information shared by the board member wasn't of a sensitive nature. As this story states, all the board member shared was that they had the meeting and then went to bed. This wasn't a leak of new products, strategy, etc.

2) HP hired people who called the phone company pretending to be the board member requesting an online login. All of the tactics are classic scammer/cracker tactics, and very below a company like HP. You have to see the letter AT&T wrote on the issue to believe what happened: http://www.thesmokinggun.com/archive/0905061hp3.html

3) HP evidently filed the wrong kind of form when the one director resigned, masking the fact that there was serious disagreement involved.
