They report problems. They rank actions.

Do you expect the news companies to actually solve the problems in the middle east and terrorism as well? Isn't reporting their role?
Society, armed with knowledge can take whatever steps are best. It seems you'd rather have them just shut up so we're all ignorant of the problems and therefore "there are no problems".

As for causing havoc, ending slavery caused a whole slew of problems. Would it have been best for Lincoln to remain quiet, allow the South to do whatever they wanted to keep the peace?
