Where did all this come from?
Globalization results from the drive to increase profits by going anywhere that costs (including salaries and benefits) are low. True, it has been going on for decades, but it truly accelerated in the last two or three decades. Companies can be seen hop-scotching around the world following the lowest costs, leaving misery in their wake. It doesn't increase the wealth of "the nation," which anyone can see by looking at the increasing unemployment figures in the US, as well as the rising inequality. It DOES increase the wealth of a few executives. The time when companies had allegiances to their country and their workforce is gone. THAT is what free trade is about!
