Sounds very good and more generally
I think Microsoft could really win big time if they set up a virtual mall for various forms of media: film, music, drawings/paintings, 3d worlds and objects created by artists.

For example, you're making a game, you want some cool music, you shop on MicrosoftMall. You can use the music in your game, the music author gets a cut. Similarily with other objects and 3d worlds. Or you make a video and pad it with cinematic shots from Joe's holiday: he gets a cut.
Of course DRM underpins everyone getting their money, and the little guy who has talent can start selling his intellectual property.

Kind of like Amazon, but everyone can be a publisher.

Of course there will be a lot of lousy content, and far too much of it, so reviewers of the content (critics) can also sell their recommendations (perhaps through advertising, or a click-through method).
